On Aug. 25, Detective Christopher Dodson received a tip that two juveniles on the Boardwalk were each in possession of a handgun. Dodson along with numerous other police officers and members of the Surveillance Center searched for and located the juveniles near Arkansas Avenue on the Boardwalk shortly after 10 p.m.
As officers converged on the group, the two juveniles fled, police said.
Sergeant Darrin Lorady chased one juvenile. The juvenile, 15, removed a handgun from his waistband and turned towards Lorady who gave commands to drop the weapon. The juvenile complied, dropping the gun and was taken into custody without incident.
The second juvenile, 16, was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. He discarded a handgun as officers moved in.
Both were charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and weapons offenses.
They were taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility.
